Vista Entertainments brings to you the master of Tabla, Ustaad Zakir Hussain in a fusion concert along with Niladri Kumar on the Sitar, his brother Taufiq Qureshi on the drums and Sabir Hussain on the Sarangi.

Ustad Zakir Hussain

Zakir Hussain is today appreciated both in the field of percussion and in the music world at large as an international phenomenon. A classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant and exciting performances have not only established him as a national treasure in his own country, India, but gained him worldwide fame. His playing is marked by uncanny intuition and masterful improvisational dexterity, founded in formidable knowledge and study The favorite accompanist for many of India's greatest classical musicians and dancers, he has not let his genius rest there.

Widely considered a chief architect of the contemporary world music movement, Zakir's contribution to world music has been unique,with many historic collaborations,including Shakti, which he founded with John McLaughlin and L. Shankar, the Diga Rhythm Band, Making Music, Planet Drum with Mickey Hart, Tabla Beat Science, Sangam with Charles Lloyd and Eric Harland and recordings and performances with artists as diverse as George Harrison, Joe Henderson, Van Morrison, Airto Moreira, Giovanni Hidalgo, Pharoah Sanders, Billy Cobham, Rennie Harris, and the Kodo drummers.

A child prodigy, Zakir was touring by the age of twelve, the gifted son of his great father, tabla legend Ustad Alla Rakha. Zakir came to the United States in 1970, embarking on an international career which includes no fewer than 150 concert dates a year. He has composed and recorded many albums and soundtracks, and has received widespread recognition as a composer for his many ensembles and collaborations. He has composed soundtracks for the films In Custody, and The Mystic Masseur directed by Ismail Merchant, Bertolucci's Little Buddha, for which Zakir composed, performed and acted as Indian music advisor, Vanaprastham (The Last Dance), chosen to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May, 1999, Saaz, and Everybody Says I'm Fine.

Zakir received the distinct honor of co-composing the opening music for the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, 1996. He was commissioned to compose music for Alonzo King's Lines, and to compose an original work for the San Francisco Jazz Festival, both in 1998. He has received numerous grants and awards, including participation in the Meet the Composer programs funded by the Pew Memorial Trust and an "Izzie" (Isadora Duncan Award) for his composition for Lines. The government of India in 2007 chose Zakir to compose an anthem to celebrate India's 60th year of independence. The song, "Jai Hind", has been recorded by an array of India's finest classical vocalists and pop singers.

The recipient of countless honors, Zakir has received the titles of Padma Bhushan, in 2002, and Padma Shri, in 1988, becoming the youngest percussionist to be awarded these, given to civilians of merit, by the Indian government. In 1990, he was awarded the Indo-American Award in recognition for his outstanding cultural contribution to relations between the United States and India. In April, 1991, he was presented with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award by the President of India, making him one of the youngest musicians to receive this recognition from India's governing cultural institute. In 2006, he was the recipient of the prestigious Kalidas Samman, an award for artists of exceptional achievement, from the government of Madhya Pradesh. In 2007, readers' polls from both Modern Drummer and Drum! magazines named him Best World Music and Best Worldbeat Drummer respectively.

In 1992, Zakir founded Moment! Records which features original collaborations in the field of contemporary world music, as well as live concert performances by great masters of the classical music of India. The label presents Zakir's own world percussion ensemble, The Rhythm Experience, both North and South Indian classical recordings, Best of Shakti and a Masters of Percussion series. Moment Records' 2006 release "Golden Strings of the Sarode" with Aashish Khan and Zakir Hussain was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Traditional World Music category for that year.

Niladri Kumar

NILADRI KUMAR, the son and disciple of Sitar Maestro Pandit Kartick Kumar, is a maverick musician. He started learning the sitar at the tender age of four and did his first public performance at the age of six. Hailed as one of the more serious young exponents of Indian Classical Music, Niladri's flashes of unparalleled brilliance is a result of years of learning and a lineage of five generation of sitar players. This has led to a profound understanding of the artistic aspects & nuances of diverse gharana styles and a mastery of technical skill.

An orthodox among the traditional and optimistically fearless among the creative,Niladri is a

rare instrumentalist with an unique musical repertoire, innovative skills and the dexterity of swift, agile fingers. Be it at his Indian Classical Music Recitals or his World Music Concerts, he can almost immediately mesmerise the orthodox as well as progressive music lovers with an uncanny ability to strike an instant rapport with the audience that transcends all age barriers. He sincerely attempts to infuse interest and respect for Indian Classical Music in the younger generation.

In March 2007, Niladri won the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi's “Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar” for Instrumental Hindustani Music. “The Sanskriti Award”, “The Jadubhatta Puraskar” and “The MTV IMMIES for the Best Classical/Fusion Instrumental Album” for his album 'IF', are some of the other awards he has won besides having valued titles like “Shanmukha Shree” & “Surmani” to his credit.

Having received rave reviews for his magnificent performances at Concerts the world over, or his immense talent featured in 10 international music albums, Niladri, is considered one of his generations brightest stars with a career that promises to be illustrious and innovative.

Taufiq Qureshi

Taufiq Qureshi, an ace percussionist of India is also an acclaimed composer. Being the son and disciple of the legendary tabla maestro, Ustad Allarakha; Taufiq’s performances showcase the traditional flavour and intricacies of Indian rhythm, interwoven with his phenomenal command and sparkle of contemporary world percussions.

Taufiq’s stint with live performances began with the creation of his own world music band, ‘Surya’ way back in 1986-87. Since then he has collaborated with several, eminent contemporary and renowned senior artistes and maestros on the concert platform; at events such as: International Festivals of Jazz Music, World music Fusion concerts, Multinational Corporate Product Launches and Indian Classical Music Conferences; all over India & abroad.

A dedicated self-learner, Taufiq soon discovered his greatest asset; ‘a feel’ for the world of sound with all its intricate nuances.

This quality makes him one of the most sought after rhythm-programmers, arranger-composers and percussionists in the world of studio recordings (film background scores, ad-jingles, albums, etc.).

Taufiq’s own albums like, ‘Colours of Rajasthan’ (1995), ‘Rhydhun’ (2000), ‘Taalisma’ (2002), ‘PercJam’ (2003), Bombay Fever (2006), Mystic Soundscapes- Forest (2007) are a result of his creative versatility as a producer- composer and percussionist. Taufiq has been featured as a performing artiste on the 2009- Grammy award winning album ‘Global Drum Project’.

Taufiq’s album ‘Rhydhun’ is said to have set new standards for world music in India. ‘Rhydhun’ was the first of its kind to be released in India. Some tracks from ‘Rhydhun’ have been featured in international labels titled, ‘Mondo Beat-Master of Percussion’ & ‘India-The Greatest Songs Ever’. ‘Rhydhun’ itself has been released in other countries like: Japan, Germany and United Kingdoms.

Taufiq Qureshi is the worthy torchbearer of a rich legacy of percussion, being the son and disciple of the legendary Ustad Allarakha and brother of the maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain. Taufiq has been greatly influenced by his illustrious brother, Ustad Zakir Hussain and is privileged to receive guidance from Ghatam Vidhwan, Pandit Vikku Vinayakram.

Taufiq’s trademark style incorporates body and vocal percussions to create unique rhythmic motifs spanning across cultures. His sense of tone and command over a wide variety of percussion instruments (like: djembe, duff, bongos, batajon, etc.) is phenomenal. After a long and arduous journey of over twenty years, Taufiq continues to evolve as a percussionist in the ever- inspiring world of live-audience performances.

By virtue of his amazing versatility as a percussionist and as a composer of sorts he has carved himself a special niche in the field of world music.

Sabir Khan

Sabir khan was born in Jodhpur Rajasthan. Belongs to a Sikar Gharana of music who have given several stalwarts to Indian classical music. He is the ninth generation to take up Sarangi. His great grand father Ustad Azim Khan shaab was a court musician at Sikar Rajasthan.

Sabir khan was exposed to music when he was six year old through his grand father Ustad Gulab khan shaab who was a great sarangi player and vocalist of his time and after that his taking training from his father world renowned sarangi player and vocalist Ustad Sultan Khan shaab and from his late uncle Ustad Nasir khan shaab .

Sabir khan is well known today for his delicate mastery of sarangi. His technique of playing is rare combination of sur and laya (note and rhythm). Sabir Khan already remarkably imbibed almost all of his great father's repertoire with a similar command and mastery on the sarangi. Indeed a chip of the old block.

Sabir khan now a days sharing stage with his father in each and every concert and also performing solo. He have honoured to perform with artist like Ustad Zakir Hussain, pt.Kumar Bose,pt. Anindo Chatterjee etc. . Beside an classical music artist his equally into light music played with artist like gazal maestro Ustad Gulam Ali, Talat Aziz, Asha bhosle and recently played in the album of great Lata Mangeshkar. Played in several feature films like Chameli,Rog,Dor,Anwar,Sanwariya,Chodon na yaar,Jodha Akbar are the few.

He has already drawn the attention of many musician and serious listener for his mastery presentations at various important venues in India, U.K. ,U.S.A.,Europe etc. . Performed at various concerts and musical festivals throughout India and abroad. His the beacon of the younger generation a wonderful product of talented nurture. He have the promising future in the field of music.


The concert would be held at the Hyderabad International Convention Center on Saturday the 16th of January 2010. We expect around 4600 People to attend the show. The tickets for the show would be prices from Rs.750/- to Rs.5,000/- per person. The Rs.5,000/- ticket would also include a post event dinner.
